Fairfax Station Flyers

Jeff has coached summer swimming for over 20 years. He started coaching the Fairfax Station Flyers about 5 years ago. This team has welcomed him(and I) with open arms. Since swimming takes up a large chunk of Jeff's time, many memories are intertwined with the Flyers.
We were married his first year coaching there. We came back from our honeymoon the day before summer swimming started. I remember bringing Gabbie to many pep rallies as an infant the next year. She had her first steps at the pool a year later.
Here we are, the 5th summer. We have a new little one to bring with us to pep rallies, while Gabbie is now a Fairfax Station Flyer herself. They decided to allow a few 3 year olds to join the team this year. Gabbie passed her screening and started practice last week. We don't expect much at all this season from her. We just want her to not have fear of the water and have fun. So far she is enjoying it. Her stubbornness kicked in of course and she didn't really listen the first two days. She followed what the others did but on her own schedule.

On the final day, she let her guard down and allowed the girls to hold her on her back, use the kick board, and practice blowing bubbles. She was so proud of herself she ran squealing over to me after practice.

Jeff coaches another group at the same time Gabbie has a lesson. This is a good thing since we know Gabbie wouldn't learn much if Jeff coached her group. Here he is watching his swimmers but subtly looking over at Gabbie's area.

I can't believe I am not only a swim wife but a swim mom as well.
